Overall, each person will do the following:

 

Open up your argument with: May It Please the court, my name Faith Bell (your name here : ] ), co-counsel for ( who you are representing)

1. A 1 minute Opening Argument - laying out what they will cover in their key argument

2. A 5-6 Minute Key Argument detailing the argument - Each of you will have separate points you will be making

3. Answer questions from judges

4. Finally, you will again each give a 1 minute Closing Argument - driving home your key points

 

FAQ'S

 

HOW FAR ALONG SHOULD I BE WITH PREPARING MY ORAL ARGUMENT? At this point you should have already split the argument with your partner into sections. You should be well into researching your topics. Oral arguments begin in 3 weeks. You and your partner should practice together to make sure you have covered all bases.

WILL WE BE GRADED TOGETHER?: No and yes. If one of you presents terribly, it reflects poorly on how you have worked together and covered the legal arguments. You will both be asked questions so be VERY familiar with your side and generally familiar with the other person's side. 

 

HOW MUCH IS THIS WORTH AGAIN?: This oral argument is worth 20% of your grade. The same amount as an exam.
