For years, many countries in Africa like Ghana followed the lead of America's beauty ideals - women straightened their hair and lightened their skin. And while those practices continue, fierce Korkor Kugblenu is changing the beauty landscape in Ghana. In 2011, she started the Body Butter Company by making body products, but soon changed her mixing strategy in response to natural hair demands.
Her brand caters to natural hair and has taken off . She has been selling it in Togo an online. The products are a result of months of trials, research and experiments with natural homemade remedies. As an M.D., she spent quite a bit of time a finding ingredients that worked to heal the body and strengthen the hair.
While she launched her startup with just 10 sets of products in 2011, her collections have grown to 50. “I’m passionate about natural hair and natural products. "I think embracing our natural hair is a way of empowering ourselves,” says the Ghanaian entrepreneur.
Some of her natural collections contain Lemon Oil, Lavender and Pure Bee’s Honey.
